Microphone polar pattern
Today, I am going to wright about polar pattern of microphones. There are many types of microphones polar pattern. Omni, Cardioid, Super cardioid, Hyper cardioid, figure of eight, Bi-directional, and Shotgun. It all has different uses.
This picture shows the pattern name and where the microphone get sound from source. I will explain about microphones that most commonly using such as Omni, Cardioid, Super Cardioi, and Figure of eight. Omni directional is commonly use for groups of singers or instrument. Also it can use for post production recording. According from the picture that above, this type of microphone receive sound from every direction. Cardioid is mostly use for live performance. It most sensitive from front side, but it least sensitive from back side. Super Cardioid has narrow pickup than Cardioid. It can pickup very little amount sound from back side, for that reason we can use it very loud stage with more gain before feed back on live performance. Figure of eight is only pickup sound from and back not 90 degree angle. It use fore Ribbon Microphone and large diagram microphones.
