On Location Audio Recording

Today I am going to explain what on location audio recording.

On location audio is simply recording audio out side of studio. Mostly, audio engineers are go outside for film or SFX recording. Therefore I am going to explain what we need and tips.

First, we need equipment. Generally, we need microphone, recorder, mixer, headphone, boom, and audio cables. Specially, for the microphone we openly use shot gun microphone, because it can capture sound the point that I want.

it is relate with microphone polar-pattern. If anyone do not know what polar-pattern is check my other blog (http://ksungil.wix.com/ksungil#!Microphone-polar-pattern/q7aeb/562fe97a0cf24d7704e787dc) Therefore. when one that want to recording should keep good point for capture good sound. For example, if we recording ADR, the microphone should pointing actor's mouth.

Second, recording ambient sound. Ambient is a noise from location that I want to record. If we use this ambient noise, audience can get more natural sound. For example, traffic sound, waves, horns, people walking and talking sounds are ambient sound of city and beach.

Finally, take good care of your devices battery or fully charged battery. On location recording devices are mostly potable devices. If the engineer did not fully charge the devices battery, it will make big problem. Moreover, this week I tried to record foot steps in the night time out side of recording studio, we were turn on recorder without check battery. We were take some time for looking for good place that we want to record. When we find good location, we could not record our foot steps for out of battery of recorder. So we have to wait for charge battery again.
